- The NiCad battery pack should be charged for the 14 hours prior to
use. This will insure that the battery has a full charge. Replacement
battery chargers for the 4.8 volt system 802-5185 are trickle chargers
and require the battery to be charged for 14 hours. The old chargers
were 8 hour charge rate.

- Programming the Spectrum, XLT, DFX; When setting custom programs,
there can be occasions where the units may not perform as well as the
factory setting. This can be caused by too high of sensitivity levels
and /or pre amp gain alone or in combination of the two.

- To pinpoint with your unit takes some practice. It is best achieved
after the target signal is heard; move the loop (search coil) to
the side of the target, press your button (older units) or pull
trigger switch (newer units) to go into pinpoint mode. Bring the coil
closer to where you heard the signal until maximum sound or meter
deflection is made. If the pattern is too large, move to the
side of the target, release and re-press the trigger to detune the
unit; this will narrow the pattern and make it easier to locate the
exact center.

Tip to keep the nut from coming off the bolt by the loop. Place a drop of
silicone on the threads of the bolt then screw on the nut. This will still
allow removal and tighten the nut.

Programing the DFX & XLT
I have had several occasions claiming that the units do not store the
programs. One problem is when modifying the factory program and not saving
it to a custom program or using the air and ground balance will cause the
program to revert to default settings. Any time the program is changed it
should be saved. There is no save option for preset programs
you will need to select one of the custom programs. If you have a program
and shut the unit off turn the unit on and pull the trigger to go back to
the same program.
